We chose this B&O color scheme because we thought it would help market the car, traditional railroad but attrative. Most of the owners were based in Marin County north of San Francisco, and "Tamalpais" is the name of a mountain the dominates the skyline. The North Pacific Coast on the letterboard was a narrow gauge forerunner of the Northwestern Pacific that ran through Marin County from Saucelito to the Russian River via the coast. General Rail was the name of the corporation set up to own the car, in which the various owners were shareholders.
